My partner and I started with Rosie at the local urban farm, followed by coffee and then grocery shopping in the big market in preparation for our cooking lesson. This is the perfect activity for a group of any size - I’d even go alone and I’m a bit of an introvert.

I only wish I’d gone earlier in my trip because I feel like it’s unlocked so much about Vietnamese food and culture for me. Thank you Rosie and Kelly for a great morning.

She was the sweetest woman working her own little field. She showed us how she worked and Rosie told us about it too. The company pay her a little money for her troubles which is nice.
Then we went on to cooking which was both delicious, teachable and fun. We were so full when we left and got the recipes on WhatsApp, so we can try ourselves at home.

We can fully recommend this day - it was all worth it.

First off, our kids are quite shy but they knew immediately what to do to make them comfortable and keep them involved without pressuring them. Second, the dishes we learned to cook were all excellent: braised eggplant, beef and vegetarian pho, banh xeo (savory pancake), green papaya salad with banana leaf, and deep fried fish with tomato. Third, they catered to both vegetarian and omnivore preferences. Fourth, the fish was a special request by a couple of other participants on our tour and we were so lucky to have learned about this bonus dish! Overall we were so pleased with this experience and highly recommend it.

After seeing amazing reviews for Jolie’s we decided to give them a try and we are so glad we did!! We booked a couple days in advance and it ended up being just my Sister and therefore accidentally having a private class!

We started off by having a coffee and introducing ourselves, walked to Han Market where we learnt how buying produce works, after we went to Jolie’s where the class takes place. I am very glad we decided to do the market as it was super interesting to see how it works properly!

We made four dishes and got fruit for dessert. The cooking was informative and super fun, we ate after preparing each which was fab as it meant I didn’t get too full!! The food was soooo tasty!!!

As they have food tours in Hoi An Rosie sent me a list of recommendations for when we visited which was so kind!

Rosie is an outstanding tour guide and cooking instructor. She gave us an amazing insider tour of the Han market, where we helped pick up some of the ingredients for the day while learning a lot about the market culture in Vietnam. At their cooking school in a really authentic Đà Nẵng neighborhood Rosie and Lucy guided us through the preparation of four Vietnamese dishes, including bánh xèo, a papaya salad, banh canh, and eggplant cooked in a clay pot. Everything was delicious and, even though we were already familiar with Vietnamese cooking, we still learned a lot! The entire class was engaging and entertaining. Rosie and Lucy are fabulous hosts and guides (special shout out to Rosie for helping my husband work on his Vietnamese!)
TLDR: Jolie Cooking Class is entertaining, enlightening and absolutely worth doing. Totally recommended this 10/10 experience!

Rosie took the time to explain the best way to choose the vegetables and fruit as well as how to shop in the markets to get the best deals. All of the dishes were delicious and we left feeling very full. This is more than just a cooking class, we enjoyed all of the fun challenges and learning how to flip our Banh Xeo. Our family, consisting of four members, including two young kids aged 10 and 6, thoroughly enjoyed the class. Rosie and Lucy did a fantastic job of making the class engaging and fun for the kids. We learned to prepare traditional Vietnamese spring rolls, following each step meticulously under their guidance. They also taught us the art of rolling spring rolls to perfection.

One of the highlights was crafting a traditional Vietnamese pho soup from scratch. We even boiled beef bones to create the delicious broth, which was a rewarding experience.

However, the real delight was making Vietnamese pancakes. Not only did we learn how to prepare the batter, and pan fry the yummy pancakes, but Rosie and Lucy also came up with a fun pancake-flipping activity that had the kids in stitches. They absolutely loved it!
